As one of British Columbias six official Regional Destination Marketing

Destination Marketing
The mandate of Kootenay Rockies Tourism is "to
generate tourism revenues by the development, coordination and execution of collaborative
destination marketing programs on behalf of the members of Kootenay Rockies Tourism."
Collaborative destination marketing is cost-effective because programs are
cost-shared amongst a number of participants and these funds are additionally levered with
provincial funds to further increase effectiveness.
In addition, travellers generally do not plan vacations around individual
businesses in isolation of other factors important to their travel. A
destinations other amenities and infrastructure play a key role in the holiday
decision-making process.
Destination Branding
An important element of destination marketing is branding. The Kootenay Rockies brand:
 | Provides a general descriptive image of the regions
tourism products. |
 | Capitalizes on existing name recognition and
association. |
 | Develops long-term product equity. |
 | Supports and adds value to individual product offerings. |
 | Differentiates the products of the destination with those of
competitors. |
 | Enhances consumer loyalty. |
