#7  –  Conquer the Trans-Canada Trail, within the Kootenays, or venture down one of the local Rails-to-Trails. These routes, esteemed for their family-friendly environment, once served as lifelines for our communities. They ferried us, provided us with necessities, and united us. Today, they stand as vibrant reminders of our shared past.

#6  –  Attend one of our unique September festivals/events, such as: the Kaleidoscope Art Festival in Kimberley (Sep 11-16), RED Resort’s Between the Peaks Mountain Music Festival in Rossland (Sep 13-14), the Luna Nocturnal Art & Wonder Festival in Revelstoke (Sep 20-22), the Columbia Valley Classic Car Show & Shine in Radium Hot Springs (Sep 20-21) and the Borscht Cook-Off in Castlegar (Sep 28).

#5  – Make your way to the Kokanee Creek Provincial Park’s spawning pool (near Nelson) and witness the unparalleled sight of the Kokanee Salmon, fearlessly charging up the waterways to fulfill their mission of depositing their eggs.

#3  –  The notorious Bighorn Sheep in the village of Radium Hot Springs – take turns on a natural stage during the late fall (early winter). Witness the spectacular, primal rituals of rutting (also known as the ‘Headbanging Season’). Marvel as the males put on a unique show of strength, locking horns in powerful displays of dominance.

#1  –  Every year without fail, the larch trees of our regional stage transform into breathtaking autumn spectacle. Each October/November, these evergreens wave goodbye to their summer green, embracing a vibrant palette of yellow and ochre. Their needles fall, yielding to winter’s kiss only to rise again in spring renewed.
