COLUMBIA RIVER

From the majestic Canadian Rockies near Canal Flats, the mighty Columbia River boldly journeys north through the serene Columbia Valley, gracing Fairmont Hot Springs, Invermere, Radium Hot Springs & Golden with its presence. It takes a commanding curve around the northern end of Kinbasket Lake, nestled in the stunning Selkirk Mountains. Seamlessly, it shifts its course south, making its way through Revelstoke and the Arrow Lakes, until it proudly meets the welcoming community of Castlegar.

KOOTENAY RIVER

Discover the mighty journey of the Kootenay River, originating from the majestic Beaverfoot Range in the Canadian Rockies. Following an impressive path south into Montana via Lake Koocanusa, it briefly kisses the States before returning triumphantly to Canada, just north of Bonners Ferry, Idaho – flowing through the picturesque Creston Valley, home to Lister, Creston & Wynndel, before marking its stamp at Kootenay Lake. Upon reaching the West Arm near Nelson, the river powers through seven hydroelectric dams, playing a key role in energizing the region. After the river’s thrilling passage through the Brilliant Dam (the final touch in this line of seven dams), it meanders for 3-km until it masterfully joins with the Columbia River in Castlegar.
