Fernie offers a network of cross-country ski trails, from beginner circuits to advanced in five distinct areas:

CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING TRAILS (only)
The Fernie Nordic Society (FNS) manages a number of trails in two areas. Use of the trails is by a day use fee available online or at the trailhead kiosk. Annual memberships are also available and are very cost-effective if you plan to use the trails for multiple days. FNS trails are for Nordic (classic and skate) skiing only; dogs, bikes and snowshoes are not allowed.

The Elk Valley Nordic Centre is located next to the Mt. Fernie Provincial Park and includes approximately 8 km (5 mi) of scenic groomed trails next to Lizard Creek varying in difficulty. There is a warming hut and events & lessons are held regularly at the Centre. Trails connect directly to the Fernie Alpine Resort.

The trails at the Fernie Golf Course are well groomed and mostly on level ground with few hills to navigate. Trails are accessed from the golf course clubhouse parking lot.

MULTI-USE TRAILS
Fernie’s many multi-use trails welcome Nordic skiers. Dog walkers, fat bikers and people snowshoeing are asked to stay to the outside edge of the groomed areas to help maintain the Nordic tracks. Use of these trails is free; donations to the Fernie Trails & Ski Touring Club, Fernie Trails Alliance or the Fernie Mountain Bike Club help to facilitate trail building, grooming, cabins, events, access rights and other facilities.

Twelve kilometres (7 mi) of daily-groomed multi-use trails are available at Fernie Alpine Resort accessed through parking lot 4. The steep start can be avoided by walking back out to the road and past the RV parking area. After this section, the trail follows an undulating circular route through forests along the Silk and Manchuria Trails.

The Montane multi-use trails are the newest area of trail in Fernie. These trails are snowmobile-groomed and offer scenic forest views. A warming hut has been provided by the Fernie Ski Trails and Touring Club. Trails area accessed via the Old Barn on Coal Creek Road.
